Barangaroo represents the future of Sydney. It is the city’s largest urban redevelopment project this century and it will evolve over the coming years.
But who was Barangaroo? Barangaroo was a Cameragal woman - a strong, proud woman, of great integrity - who played an important role in the early days of colonial Sydney. The wife of Bennelong, after whom Bennelong Point is named, their names now bookend the eastern and western points of Sydney’s CBD.
Sydney Theatre Company and Major Sponsor Lend Lease have teamed up to develop a series of walking tours to explore Barangaroo and its surrounds, bringing this fascinating history to life. Barangaroo will become a spectacular waterfront precinct, a vibrant economic, residential and leisure hub and a place that everyone in NSW and Australia can be proud of. The NSW Government has partnered with Lend Lease to create Barangaroo South.
